Now we’re adding a clubhouse to match, giving members a real home base for everything that happens around the game: meals, conversation, time together once play is over. The project, more than twenty years in the making, was recently approved by our membership. Until now, that role fell to a small building originally meant to serve as the pro shop, which expanded into a restaurant along the way and has outgrown its footprint several times over. Our club president, Linda Bodenmann, was thrilled to hear about the project’s approval. "We're a premier country club with a golf course and racquets facility that are well known throughout the region, but we've never had a real clubhouse," Bodenmann said. "This project finishes that vision with a clubhouse that matches the level of everything else we offer." ## Built for Life Beyond the Course "Members join because [of the golf course](https://www.bayclubmatt.com/golf) or [the racquets facility](https://www.bayclubmatt.com/club/racquets)," she said. "What the clubhouse does is give everyone a warm, social environment to come together once they're done playing." The new design will have different spaces for different moods: a bar area with room for groups to celebrate a round together, a casual dining room where kids and noise are part of the plan, and a quiet dining room for anyone who wants a slower evening. Even the lobby is getting a second look. Bodenmann says the goal is a space that feels like a living room, somewhere members linger rather than just pass through. ## The Design Since becoming member-owned in 2022, Bay Club has leaned on our members to shape decisions like this one. Rather than handing the clubhouse design to a small group, Bodenmann and general manager Greg Yeomans spent time listening directly to members (golfers, racquets players, and neighbors alike) before drawing any plans. "This is a concept and a design the members told us they wanted," Bodenmann says. "It didn't come down from one or two people." That feedback led us to select a site near the 18th hole, the traditional home for a clubhouse, and to a design built around how our members said they wanted to gather. ## Building It Right With approval secured, Bodenmann says the focus now shifts to execution. A construction committee will bring together members with direct industry expertise, including two with construction backgrounds, working alongside a local architect and a project lead. A finance committee of investment bankers and former CFOs will oversee the club's approach to financing the project. "Investing in the club now is how we make sure it stays strong for the members who join years from now," she said. "We just want to do it thoughtfully and responsibly." With an already strong reputation across the region, the clubhouse is the next piece. It’ll be a space shaped by our members, built for everything that happens around a round or a match.
