Monday, 14. June 2010 13:16

The USA vs. Scotland Polo Match will take place on Saturday June 19th in Portsmouth RI, and Bay Club at Mattapoisett Director of Cultural Activities and Events John McCormack  has organized an off property picnic for members before the match.  The tailgate picnic will be prepared by Bay Club at Mattapoisett Executive Chef Jim Mercer’s crew and enjoyed by members and their friends on the grounds of the Newport Polo Club.

Scottish fans from throughout the region will be at the match, wearing kilts and waving ‘the Saltire’ (St. Andrews cross) in lively support of their fellow countrymen as Scotland attempts to defend its last victory.  The polo matches are a longstanding tradition in Newport, dating back more than 130 years.  This picnic is certain to be a fresh twist on a New England classic.

Summer Programs for Bay Club at Mattapoisett

Friday, 9. April 2010 14:01

Camp Seahorse Bay Club at MattapoisettSummer is a wonderful time for young members of the Bay Club at Mattapoisett.  This year we are proud to offer an expanded Club Seahorse in the form of Bay Club Base Camp for older children (9-15) as well as a competitive swim program.

We are thrilled to welcome back charismatic Chris Bobola as the Director of Club Seahorse.  Chris has been hard at work organizing and hiring a terrific staff for Summer 2010.  The program offers daily swimming, tennis and golf along with arts and crafts, games and outdoor sports for children aged 4 to 9 years old.

John McCormack, Director of Cultural Activities and Special Events at the Bay Club is the thought leader behind Bay Club Base Camp.  “BCBC” is geared towards children ages 9 to 15.  The program is a hybrid of fun, educational activities with sports and life development skills.  Some of the action will be held off site to take advantage of the wonderful natural resources our Southeastern MA location has to offer.

Bay Club’s Nate Medeiros, WSI certified instructor and long time competitive swimmer, will coach the Bay Club Competitive Swim Program.  The group will be broken down by age group and the workouts include stretching, dry land training, stroke work, distance and sprint training and then verbal evaluations.  Nate is a motivating force, both in and out of the pool.  His love of swimming is passed through to the children and directed into a rewarding competitive experience.

Before watching the Super Bowl, get outside and stretch your legs.  Be prepared as trails may be icy, snow covered, or muddy.

The walk will begin at 1:00 pm at the Slocum’s River Reserve on Horseneck Road in Dartmouth and end at the Buzzard’s Bay Brewery in Westport (where you can stock up for the game!) Transportation will be provided back to your car, with plenty of time to get home for the game.

The Holiday Season at the Bay Club

Friday, 11. December 2009 22:57

christmas wreathThe spirit is joyously bubbling over at the Bay Club at Mattapoisett this season.  Foremost, the beautiful tree, decked out by local florist Chad Micheal Peters in the Sports & Activities Center is brimming with lovely  gifts donated by our generous members in support of local children.

John McCormack, the Bay Club’s Director of  Cultural Activities, hosted a holiday wreath class to help members personalize their own special wreath to use in their homes.   As always The Bay Club provides the materials and members are encouraged to bring special elements that will personalize their work.  It is a social time of collaboration and has become a tradition with many members.

The annual holiday party will once again coincide with the Pro Shop Sale.  The sale hasn’t quite reached the level of frenzy as Filene’s on Wedding Gown Sale Day; however you would be surprised at the bargains and enthusiasm members bring to the event.

Hope to see you round the tree this season.  To arrange a personal tour, send Dave Andrews an email, he would be happy to arrange a meeting.

Wednesday, 28. October 2009 1:30

Eva Sommaripas GardenThe renowned Eva Sommaripa,  along with Bay Club at Mattapoisett Executive Chef Jim Mercer, is leading a private tasting tour for club members through her organic garden.  Eva is considered by many to be the most successful farmer on the South East coast of MA.  Her amazingly fragrant herbs are cut to order for some of Boston’s top chefs, including the Bay Club at Mattapoisett’s very own Chef Jim Mercer.   The hour and a half tour will explore her farm and expand your world of plants, herbs and vegetables.  “This is not your normal supermarket stuff”, says Eva!

The Bay Club at Mattapoisett’s Director of Cultural Activities and Special Events, John McCormack, is leading a group to the 5th Annual New Bedford Open Studio Tour.  The Tour includes more than 90 artists exhibiting in historic buildings including mills, a former church, and other vintage buildings throughout New Bedford.  This is a lovely opportunity to learn more about architectural elements of the city and the vibrant art scene that is growing in talent and reputation.
