Bay Club Members Donate to The First Tee of Massachusetts

Members at the Bay Club recently began a drive to collect old golf balls to donate to The First Tee of Massachusetts.  In the first few days, two 55 gallon trash barrels full of golf balls have been collected.  The First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people.   The club is planning future campaigns that will include donating old clubs.

Bay Club PGA Junior League Golf

The Bay Club is pleased to participate in the 2013 PGA Junior League Golf League (PGA JLG).  The primary goal of the PGA JLG is to grow the game of golf in a FUN, yet competitive environment for kids 13 and under.  Each competition features four match-play matches.   All matches are 2-player scramble format, with each match divided into three 3-hole segments (called “Flags”).  Each flag is worth 1 point. Essentially, the PGA JLG is golf’s version of youth little league baseball.

Three of the team’s players were named to the All Star team and will represent the Cape Cod area in some regional competitions.

Bay Club Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary!

Bay Club members gathered pool side at the Sports and Activities Center on a perfect summer solstice to celebrate the Bay Club’s 10 year Anniversary.   Executive Chef, Jim Mercer and his culinary team served seasonal fare at several creative food stations.  Members also danced the evening away to the sounds of Boston-based band “The Marsels.”

Those attending also enjoyed a short video themed “Look What People Can Do” produced by Gene Ferraro and his business associate Freddie Wiss of Ferraro Communications.

Joanne Chang Returns to the Bay Club!

On Saturday, June 22 members were treated to a special cooking demonstration by Joanne Chang, chef/owner of Flour Bakery + Café.  Joanne prepared Christopher’s Oven-Baked Potato and Red Pepper Tortilla, Gougères and Bittersweet Chocolate-Espresso Terrine.  Participants also received a signed copy of her second cookbook Flour, too: Indispensable Recipes from the Cafe’s Most Loved Sweets and Savories.

Joanne currently operates four Flour Bakery and Cafés in Boston.   She and her husband Christopher Myers also own and operate Myers+Chang, a pan-Asian restaurant in the South End.

FlxRez Online Court Reservation System

Bay Club members are now able to make court reservations for racquet events online through FlxRez by ForeTees.  Regarded in the private club industry as the finest online reservation system available.  Some of the benefits of  FlxRez include the ability for members to access court sheets 24/7 from any Internet-enabled device; book, modify or cancel court times online and create a “Partner” list.  This new service will enhance member’s tennis and paddle tennis experience at the club.

Open Table Nights at the Golf House

Executive Chef Jim Mercer and his team have introduced Open Table Nights at the Golf House restaurant. Each Wednesday night throughout the winter months, Bay Club members enjoy simple winter comfort food served casually at large communal tables. Self serve soup and salad begin the evening followed by entrees such as Chicken Pot Pie, Beef Stew, and House-made Meatloaf and Turkey dinner. And the children enjoy a special menu as well. This new format has been well received with many members taking advantage of these“One Pot” specials!

Bay Club Academy of Fitness

Dave Maloney, Fitness Director at the Bay Club recently introduced the Academy of Fitness.  This new service offers members a variety of monthly health and wellness information in the form of lectures, videos, hand-outs, and bulletin boards displays.  In addition, Dave created a Bay Club Fitness Channel on YouTube to showcase a new monthly exercise each month.  You may view Dave’s library of videos by clicking here.

A Trip to Blithewold Museum, Bristol, RI

Bay Club members recently enjoyed a visit to historic Bristol, Rhode Island to tour Blithewold Mansion just in time for the holidays. This year’s Christmas theme, “A Grand Tour or Europe” took participants from Paris to Italy to England, and many places in between. Each room displayed elaborate decorations with a feel of country to celebrate the Van Wickle family’s love of travel. Blithewold, a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay, was built by built by Augustus Van Wickle, a Pennsylvania coal baron and his wife, Bessie Pardee Van Wickle. Each year, numerous volunteers spend time decorating the 45 room mansion housed on the property. After the guided tour, members dined at Redlefsen’s Rotisserie & Grill, a favorite Bristol restaurant that served eclectic fare with a European flair. It was a great start to the holiday season!

Paddle Tennis Opening Weekend

The Bay Club Paddle Tennis courts officially opened for the season on November 3 as players of varying experience joined in to rally with other members.

On November 4, Professional Paddle Tennis Instructor, Debbie Ginn gave a brief introduction to Paddle and joined members for some play.  Debbie is a PPTA and USPTA Certified Professional and has competed for the Philadelphia region in paddle at President’s Cup and Nationals in recent years.  Debbie has been teaching paddle for 8 years, most recently at the Philadelphia Cricket Club and is currently teaching tennis at the Natick Racquet Club.  She will be offering clinics and lessons this season at the Bay Club.

Paddle is an easy game to learn and many golfers and tennis players enjoy the great exercise, fun, and camaraderie over the fall and winter months.

Yeomans Wins 5th NEPGA Cape Cod Match Play Championship!

Bay Club Head Golf Professional Greg Yeomans defeated Rochester Golf Club’s Rusty Gunnarson to win the 2012 New England PGA Cape Cod Match Play Tournament hosted by the Woods Hole Golf Club.  The win also secured Yeomans’ fourth straight NEPGA Cape Cod Chapter Dutch Wessner Player-of-the-Year award.  This award is presented annually to the Class “A” PGA professional who accumulates the most points based on individual performance in Chapter events.  Greg’s wins included four first place finishes in chapter events this season.  He has won the Wessner award consecutively since 2009.  To read more, please visit the New England Section of the PGA Cape Cod Chapter website by clicking here.

Oktoberfest Inspired Fare at the Golf House

Members didn’t need to travel to Munich this year to enjoy Oktoberfest.  Chef Jim Mercer and his culinary team added German inspired fare from Barley Soup to Bratwurst and Real Barrel Fermented Sauerkraut to the weekly Dinner Menu at the Golf House restaurant.  In addition, Restaurant Manager Sue Papi added a variety of German ales for members to enjoy throughout the month.
