Bay Club Moves into First Place in Buzzards Bay Golf League

Friday, 27. July 2012 15:33

The Bay Club traveled to Pocasset this week and scored an upset victory against the home team in the Buzzards Bay Golf League (BBGL).   Bay Club members Bob Muse and Ron Dias took the first flight 10.5 to 7.5 in a classic “ham and egg” match. In fact, the individuals scored nearly identically with Muse shooting 79, while Dias, Tribou, and Harris all shot 80.  In the second flight, Pete Adam’s blistering 75 (medalist of the day) was too much for the Bay Club team to handle bringing an 11-7 win to Pocasset. The Bay Club’s third flight team featured former Pocasset members Steve Morte and his son Marston. Steve fired a fine 76 (net 65) to win 11.5 to 6.5. And in the final match, Bill Hyland’s 38 on the back nine (82 gross — 69 net overall) proved just enough to edge out a 9.5 to 8.5 win over the Bay Club.  With the victory, the Bay Club moves into first place in the BBGL with 109 points.

The BBGL is a golf competition among private golf clubs on or near Buzzards Bay. The League was created to provide a friendly, but competitive inter-club competition amongst area clubs that play during the summer when courses are in peak condition.  The BBGL is open to any aged male member with a handicap range of 0 – 18.  The 2012 roster consists of The Bay Club, Cape Cod National, Golf Club at Cape Cod, Pocasset Golf Club, The Ridge Club and Willowbend Country Club.

The Bay Club is a golf and country club community with 625 acres of wooded and gently rolling terrain, that includes 200 acres of open space and 175 home-sites in Mattapoisett along the SouthCoast of Massachusetts. To arrange a private tour please contact Dave Andrews at 508-207-9232.

Introductory Calligraphy Workshop with White House Calligrapher Rick Paulus

Friday, 27. July 2012 10:15

Rick Paulus,  former White House Chief Calligrapher for Presidents William Clinton and George W. Bush, came to the Bay Club for a fun and exploratory Introduction to Calligraphy workshop.  A student and practitioner of hand-lettering for over thirty years, Rick led a two hour workshop that was designed for both beginners and intermediates.  Participants explored the methods of writing with a broad edge pen through replication of their own natural hand writing, as well as learned how to copy historical hands that have been the basis of our writing for close to 2,000 years.
